Blue Kyanite is a metamorphic, aluminium silicate mineral. Speak your truth and express yourself from the heart with Blue Kyanite. Named after the Greek word kyanos, which means “dark blue,” Blue Kyanite is an aluminosilicate mineral characterised by its differing hardness, perfect cleavage, and crystal form. In antiquity, it was believed that Kyanite suspended from a person’s hair could follow the Earth’s magnetic force like a compass needle. It was common for travellers to take Kyanite specimens with them on long journeys that entered unknown territories.
A frequent habit is intense zones of blue-grey, black and green colours in distinctive elongated, blade-like crystals, or cluttered rosettes with a pearly, opalescent surface. It also is commonly accompanied by Garnet, Quartz, and Black Mica. Kyanite’s most distinctive characteristic is its strong anisotropic properties. Anisotropic minerals exhibit varying hardness, depending on their crystallographic direction. When Kyanite is cut parallel to its long axis, its hardness can range from 4 to 4.5 on the Mohs scale, but when it is cut perpendicularly, its hardness can range from 6 to 7.
Kyanite is a powerful crystal with a very soothing, calming energy. Its energy is unlimited in application, making it excellent for meditation, attunement, and cleansing other crystals. Blue Kyanite helps to quieten the mind, dissolving emotional, mental, or spiritual confusion, and anxiety. It helps one to recognise one’s gifts and talents and encourages one to listen to one’s heart and be true to self without the influence of others. Blue Kyanite harmonises with all other Kyanite varieties, as well as Moldavite, Phenacite and Azeztulite.
